Featured Therapist – Taylor Coates

We ask Taylor…

How long have you been working in the beauty profession?
I trained for two years at college and I was then lucky enough to get a job immediately afterwards at Icon Beauty. That was two years ago, and I have never looked back!

What made you want to follow this career originally?
In secondary school I started experimenting with make-up and shaping my own eyebrows. I would spend hours shaping and colouring them to perfection! I also started doing mini pedicures and makeovers on my grandparents and this was when my interest really started.  My family all knew it would be a well-suited profession for me, so I decided to invest in two years industry training at college.

What sets Icon Beauty apart from other salons do you think?
That’s easy! The Icon Team. All the girls are so hard working, super professional and 100% supportive of each other. This in turn creates an amazing client experience and a great first impression. As soon as I walked through the door, the team made me welcome and comfortable and  we genuinely all get on really well.

What is your favourite treatment?
My favourite treatment is nails ! And my specialist treatment has to be EYEBROWS, I absolutely love working on them. Shaping and tinting makes all the difference to your face and there are so many different types. Eyebrows are such a big trend, be it  thick, thin, blonde, dark, everyone loves having perfect brows!

What is your favourite brand or product?
Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer. Initially I was a bit wary of using an exfoliator that you leave on your face (rather than wash off) but it has produced some brilliant results! I’ve noticed how some of my acne scarring has started to disappear and it has also given me a glow. Quite an amazing product!

What advice would you give to anyone just starting out in the beauty profession?
I would say, don’t be too hard on yourself. Everyone has to start somewhere and the more you work, the more confidence you gain. When I started out, I should have taken my own advice! I was quite hard on myself, but now I am so happy with how far I’ve come and the support  I have had along the way.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Two things…the relationship I have with all the other girls in the team and getting to know each and every client that comes into the salon. I really enjoy forging a relationship with them, be it a new client or someone who has been coming here for years.

When you are not working what do you like doing in your spare time?
I like to shop – A LOT!

What are you listening to on your headphones at the moment?
Capital Xtra

What part of the city is your favourite?
I really enjoy going into town, so probably Cabot Circus for the shops and then Gloucester Road for the restaurants and bars.
